New Research on NPHC Social Media Use

I am so honored to publish my first research article in the prestigious Journal of Negro Education. In this qualitative study, we explore how Black NPHC members mirror their physical world across social media. We found that NPHC members use social media to consume culture and find sense of connectedness. Yet, they felt that they have to engage in impression management to limit their identity expression due to fears of racism, perpetuation of negative stereotypes, or to uphold a specific image of their fraternity or sorority. We provide implications for practice in the context of a PWI.

This article is co-authored with my former student Charles X. Martin III and former colleague Dr. J. T. Snipes (Southern Illinois University Edwardsville) and is entitled “ The Digital Yard: An Examination of Social Media among Black Greek Letter Organization Members at a Predominantly White Institution.”

A copy of the article is accessible here.
