New Research Publication About Hazing
I recently coauthored two new research articles in a recent volume of New Directions for Student Services edited by Drs. J. Patrick Biddix and Emily Perlow. First, I published “Contemporary hazing prevention initiatives and efforts” with coauthors Susan Bruce (University of Virginia), Dr. Lori Hart (The Catalyst Agency), and Kayle J. Davis (Texas Christian University). In this first article, as authors we highlighted current and emerging anti-hazing practices and initiatives. Then, in the second article “Addressing hazing using a horizontal campus hazing model and matrix” with my couthors Dr. Brian Joyce (George Washington University) and Dr. Stevan Veldkamp (Penn State University, we introduce the Piazza Center Horizontal Hazing Model. This is an explantory hazing prevention model which conceptualizes the ways in which hazing transitions from pre‐college environments into higher education and across student constructed spaces such as student organizations or sorority and fraternity chapters. Hazing is positioned as multi‐tiered, occurring at individual, organizational, and community level practice on college campuses. This model helps practitioners better understand where to target interventions to disrupt hazing.
