Upcoming Webinar on Whiteness in Fraternity Men
I will be facilitating an ACPA webinar sponsored by the Coalition for Men & Masculinities (CMM) in two weeks. I will be co-facilitating “Post(racial) Malone: Racial and Gender Performativity of ‘White Iverson’ In Male Student Leaders” with my undergraduate research assistant, James Beverly III. This webinar will address unconscious habits of whiteness in undergraduate fraternity men.
This session will explore results from a phenomenological study of “White Iverson” in which white male-identified student leaders expressed sentiments of dispossession, postracial attitudes, and cultural appropriation. They cited their own lack of power and privilege which they believe has been dispossessed because of college policies. Implications suggest further deconstruction of White male masculinity, hegemony, and identity performativity.
