Summer Scholarship
This summer I am busy teaching two courses on student development theory and leadership theory. However, I am also very busy working on summer scholarship. The summer is typically the time where I catch up on writing and data analysis. The public perception is that faculty are on the beach or in the woods contemplating the existentiality of society. This year in the summer I am busy facilitating many presentations and authoring drafts of manuscripts:
1) This summer I am able to take part in AFA Research Week (July 19-23) and I get to be on a panel about Sorority/Fraternity research with Dr. Patrick Biddix (University of Tennessee-Knoxville) and Dra. Monica Lee Miranda (University of South Florida). We are collaborating on our third book together on identity in sororities and fraternities. I will also be offering individual consultations with emerging researchers about their evolving areas of interest and research.
2) I will be facilitating a presentation for the ACPA Coalition on Men & Masculinities Institute for Critical Perspectives & Practices on College Masculinities in late June. I will be presenting on my emerging Multiracial Masculinities Developmental Pathways Model. This is a fluid student development theory for multiracial male-identifying college students. This will also appear in my multiracial masculinities text I am developing with Dr. Derrick Paladino (Rollins College) and will be released sometime next year.
3) Earlier this summer I presented at the 2021 National Archives Conference for Fraternities and Sororities on the history of student life. It was such a refreshing experience to focus on the historical foundations of student movements. I also generated a seminal readings list of historical texts that discuss the history of student life.
4) This summer I am working on a number of manuscripts related to antisemitism, fraternities and sororities, and multiraciality. My writing goals are to submit 3 new manuscripts this summer for publication in top academic higher education journals. I also have a number of “revise and resubmit” articles I am continuing to evolve.
