Four New Articles Accepted in Academic Journals
Over the next few months a number of my manuscripts have recently been accepted for publication and will be appear in several different higher education journals. There have been so many pandemic related delays, but I am excited to keep plugging along to publish my research with colleagues and my students. I am particularly proud that all of these are with some of my past students.
The first article will appear in the The College Student Affairs Journal and explores how Division I student-athletes navigate mental health and support services. This is published with Dr. Shelley Price-Williams (University of Northern Iowa) and my former student Brianna McCarthy (University of Louisville). It will be published in Fall 2022 and is entitled “In my feelings: Division I student-athletes navigating mental health and support services at a midwestern university.” My favorite part is that there are easter eggs I inserted in the article related to the ubiquitous Drake song.
The second article will appear in Fall 2021 in the Journal of Campus Campus Activities Practice & Scholarship with my former student Alexis Palladini (University of Minnesota-Mankato). The article is a descriptive study to identify associations between attachment styles, living arrangement, and involvement. We used Astin’s Theory of Student Involvement (1984) to posit how commuter students are responsible for their own learning and we found that their home relationships and strength of attachment can potentially reduce their investment in cocurricular experiences.
The third article will be published in the Georgia Journal of College Student Affairs with my former student, Dr. Sarmiento. We explored the experiences of faculty with Catholic mission and values in their teaching. The article will be published in fall 2021 and is entitled “Experiences with ex corde ecclesieae in faculty teaching practices at Catholic colleges.”
The final article is also authored with my colleague Dr. Shelley Price-Williams (University of Northern Iowa) and my former student Tiffany Shemwell (SIU Edwardsville). The article is entitled “Collaboration, policies, and programming: Advising administrators’ perspectives on academic recovery” and will be published in The Mentor: An Academic Advising Journal. We discuss the ways in which academic advising administrators facilitate academic recovery programs for students on academic probation or warning.
It has been such a pleasure writing with my scholarly colleagues and reconnecting with my students interested in research. It such a great way to engage in informal teaching.
